About the Scholarship

The Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme is a higher education scholarship program founded by the Hungarian Government in 2013. The program aims to promote cultural understanding, economic and cultural relations between Hungary and other countries, and to attract top foreign students from all around the world.

This scholarship offers a wide range of courses for international students to pursue their higher education at Hungarian universities, covering all academic levels from bachelor's to doctoral programs. The scholarship is awarded for studies in any field of interest at one of Hungary's prestigious higher education institutions.

For bachelor's programs: Completed secondary education with good academic records.
For master's programs: Holding a bachelor's degree or equivalent
For doctoral programs: Holding a master's degree or equivalent
Meet the language requirements of the chosen study program (English or Hungarian)
Meet the specific entry requirements of the university and program you choose to apply
Applicants must be in good health condition.For example having no vision issues for pilots program applicants.Having no contagious disease like covid 19,HIV,etc

Specific Information for Bangladeshi Students

Bangladeshi students must apply first to the online portal of Ministry of Education in Bangladesh,then to the Stipendium Hungaricum official portal and finally they need to print these application forms and submit these , physically , to the Ministry of Education in Bangladesh along with all other required documents.All documents must be legalized by a first class gazetted officer. The application period starts in November and ends in 15th of January. Applicants must have completed their previous level of education with a very good GPA (typically GPA 5 for SSC and HSC).These is no minimum requirements to apply but having GPA 5 is important in order to get this scholarship ! English proficiency tests like IELTS is required (minimum 7 recommended)

Application Process

Getting Nominated By Your Own Country

The first stage of this scholarship is to be in the list of selected students choosen by your own country's government.For example,the government of Bangladesh will review all the applicants from Bangladesh and Select around 200 students that they would like to send to Hungary to study for FREE with this scholarship.

Admission Test

The selected students from all countries will then take online examinations and interviews from the two universities they selected in their application.Each university will conduct the admission tests and interviews just like they would for a fee-paying student.There is nothing special in difficulty level for stipendium Hungaricum applicants.You will get the syllabus for these tests mailed to you by the universities after your country nominates you for this scholarship. 99% of students pass this stage.

THE FINAL STAGE

Finally the Hungarian Education Ministry , known as TEMPUS FOUNDATION , will review the application and analyse the test results to select the final set of students who will successfully receive the scholarship ! From the approximately 200 selected students from Bangladesh Government,around 100 will be on this final list ! Yippie,I was one (Alhamdulillah)

Required Documents

Identification Documents

Copy of valid passport OR national Identification card,and passport-sized photo are needed

Academic Records

Certified copies of all academic transcripts and diplomas (secondary and higher education) are needed. For Bangladeshi students — getting SSC and HSC certificates or O Levels and A Levels certificates legalized by any first-class gazetted officer is enough to apply for this scholarship. You do not need to legalize them from the Foreign Ministry; you can do that later before the visa application. To learn about the full Hungarian study visa process, read this article of mine.

Language Proficiency

Proof of language proficiency (IELTS, TOEFL, or equivalent) is required for English programs. For Bangladeshi students, IELTS is preferred, and the ministry usually nominates those with a score of 7 or higher. However, requirements vary by country—some, like Pakistan, may accept students without IELTS. While Hungarian universities or the government don’t mandate IELTS, many countries require it during the nomination stage.

Medical Certificate

Medical certificate of satisfactory health condition issued within the last 6 months is required.You will find a medical form in the official webite of stipendium Hungaricum while applying.You need to print that form, go to a hospital and carry out the required tests and fill that form by a doctor and take his or her signature in it.Good news is that you can submit this form after getting nominated in stage one.

Letters of Recommendation,
Motivation Letter

Two recommendation letters from professors or employers familiar with your academic/work performance are required for PHd students.Every student however,needs to write a motivation letter explaining why you want to study in hungary through this scholarship program and why you deserve it.The motivation letter is extreamly cruicial for stage two and three of this scholarship.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Certificates of extracurricular activities showcase a student's involvement beyond academics, highlighting skills such as leadership, teamwork, communication, and social responsibility. These certificates add value to scholarship and university applications by reflecting a well-rounded personality.So try to submit as many of these as you can.

Since the first stage of this scholarship is getting nominated by your own country, each country might ask for additional documents. When is the application deadline for 2026?

November 2025-January 15th 2026.Classes will start from Sepmter 2026.

Can I apply for this scholarship while studying in Hungary?

Yes , you can apply to stipendium hungaricum scholarship while already studying in Hungary.

Can I apply for multiple programs?

You can apply in two ways:
– To two different universities (one program at each), or
– To one university with two different programs.

In both cases, you must write a separate motivation letter for each program.

Is there an age limit for applicants?

There is no official age limit for applicants. However, preference might be given to younger candidates who have recently completed their previous level of education.

Can I work while studying with this scholarship?

Yes, scholarship holders are allowed to work part-time (up to 30 hours per week) during their studies. During holiday periods, full-time work is permitted.

What are the tips for a successful application?

1. Start preparing documents early, especially language certificates.
2. Write a compelling and personalized motivation letter.

Is IELTS mandatory?

Although it is possible to study in Hungary without IELTS, English proficiency test is mandatory for this scholarship as mentioned by the ministry of Education, Bangladesh , in their circular. Whether you take IELTS, TOEFL or Duolingo is your personal preference (we all know which is most accepted worldwide).

What is Medical Certificate?

There is a medical certificate form in the official stipendium website. It contains a list of tests and childhood vaccinations. Download and print it. You have already taken the childhood vaccinations so just tick “yes” in those. You do not need to submit any proof for it or write any date if you don’t have them. Now, show the list to a hospital and tell them you need the result of the other tests. Do those tests and fill the form up by a doctor and take the doctor’s signature.

When Should I submit Medical Certificate?

It is best to submit the medical certificate with all the other documents in the first stage to the ministry although the deadline is later since Bangladesh ministry might want to accept students who have submitted proper documents. This is my personal opinion. You can submit it later within the deadline.

How to get the documents attested?

It is best if you can do the attestation of all your educational documents from education ministry. But in the first stage of this scholarship,it is enough to attest them by any first class gazetted officer. You will find first class gazetted officer among your school or college's teachers.Ask > them to attest your documents.If you already have them attested from ministry you dont need to go to any first class gazetted officer because the people in ministry are also first class gazetted officer.
